10 actors from the U.K who should have been in Harry Potter

Harry Potter was a international sensation. Not only was it famous for making kids go crazy for weird stuff like books, but it also attempted to employ every actor from the United Kingdom in some form. They were so wide-reaching in their attempts to get everyone who spoke English is a more refined way to be in their movies that you can’t help but wonder why some actors didn’t make the cut. While contemplating this question in the therapeutic confines of my shower I came up with a list of actors who should have been in the movies, and what they might have done. Continue reading

‘There are downsides to being this handsome’: Why people hate me for being attractive

On April 3rd one of the great columnists of our time, Samantha Brick, informed the world just how hard it was to be a pretty women. With one brave piece she opened the eyes of the homely masses, showing them just how hard it was to be an attractive with less appealing females constantly making her life a living hell. The hell only a beautiful women who gets compliments and free stuff from men can understand. You can read her article here, but let me tell you it’s infinitely more unbearable to be a handsome man than a pretty woman…this is my story. Continue reading

100 Reasons Why I Love Movies: Part 4

It’s part 4 of the greatest list of movie moments ever assembled. Even the mucky-mucks of Hollywood have been sitting on the edges of their seats waiting for my continuation of this list. Well, the wait is now over and you can revel in my personal reveling of other people’s genius.

I only have three “rules” that I’m trying to follow with this list and they are there just to make it have more variety:
1. Try not to repeat a movie more than once.
2. Try to have two listings that aren’t individual scenes per post.
3. Try to include 1 guilty pleasure per post.

Fair warning: There are spoilers in my description paragraphs and the videos themselves but I will try to keep the bold titles spoiler free so you can easily skip one where you think I might spoil something.

KIlling Time with IMDb

Presumably you are reading this because you are bored. I have no illusions that I have any fans that will read my posts right when I post them. I imagine they see I post one, and then bide their time until they are at work before they crack it open to hopefully burn 15 minutes or so. I have no problem with my entertainment level being only slightly higher than sitting in a cubicle staring at numbers and charts. Like my blog, you probably have many other sites you visit while listlessly scanning the internet (your “go-to sites” if you will). Facebook, ESPN, Twitter, and Wikipedia are probably 4 of the most popular go-to sites for people. None of those sites can match the greatness that is IMDb for me. You can get almost anything movie and TV related at that site. I have personally ranked every full length movie1 that I’ve seen on it. I watch trailers, read reviews, talk on the forums for individual movies and actors/actresses/directors/writers, and get the vast majority of my movie news from there. Yet this is not the greatest boredom killer on that site for me. That accolade goes to a little thing called “Parents Guide.” Continue reading

100 Reasons Why I Love Movies: Part 3

Part 3 of this Ken-Burnsian epic of me trying to show people just why I spent so much of my free time watching movies. Featuring (in no particular order) some stellar lines, moments, and subtleties that have stuck out to me as the cream of the crop (at least of the crop I can remember).

Also, Nicolas Cage missed the cut this time…I’m as devastated as all of you.

100 Reasons Why I Love Movies: Part 2

Part 2 of a series of 10, where I try to show people why I love movies as much as I do. Featuring (in no particular order) some stellar lines, moments, subtleties that have made me one of those weirdos that goes to the movies by himself more often than not.

I only have three “rules” that I’m trying to follow with this list and they are there just to make it have more variety:
1. Try not to repeat a movie more than once.
2. Try to have two listings that aren’t individual scenes per post.
3. Try to include 1 guilty pleasure per post.

Hopefully I will inspire some deep seeded passion in you for the cinematic arts and we someday have late night discussions about Fellini or Kurosawa…or we can just talk about why Dirty Work is so funny.

Fair warning: There are spoilers in my description paragraphs and the videos themselves but I will try to keep the bold titles spoiler free so you can easily skip one where you think I might spoil something.

In case you missed it, you can find part 1 here.

100 Reasons Why I Love Movies: Part 1

Part 1 of 10 of a list of scenes, trends, lines, moments, or anything involved in movies that have, over the years, shaped my ever-growing love of cinema. The list is in no particular order and I will try to add as many youtube clips as I can. If not I’ll probably add a picture or the trailer or something (although you should probably just watch the films in there entirety to get the full effect of the scenes). Although I didn’t want to restrict myself to much I did have a few very lax rules:
1. Try not to repeat a movie more than once.
2. Try to have two listings that aren’t individual scenes per post.
3. Try to include 1 guilty pleasure per post.

There will probably end up being spoilers eventually, but I’ll try to leave them out of the bold titles (when I say what the scene is and what the movie is). Then you can just skip over them if you want to watch the movie first. I hope you enjoy reading this list as much as I enjoyed watching/remembering the moments that lie in it. Continue reading
